Sensation w/out perception in infants, do not have context to translate, and people w/amnesia/brain injury/a blind person with a sudden ability to see unable to understand. Brain can interpret ambiguous cues in multiple ways. Perception: brain organizes input, translates into something meaningful/in context. We often think of synesthesia as seeing sounds in different colors (also known as chromesthesia). Berit Brogaard has had synesthesia, a neurological condition in which different senses combine in unusual ways, for as long as she can remember.
